A beautifully composed, early to early mid 19th century French School half–length pastel portrait of a seductive young lady in period attire. Created with good technical skill, the painting displays soft but deep tonality with skilful use of the medium to create lovely contrasting skin tones with very fine and detailed attention to the sitter's face and hair.
The present work is exceptional in execution and composition. It is particularly beautiful in its lovely gilt frame. It is
amost attractive 19th century French pastel half-length bust portrait which we think would suit a variety of interiors and decors. A fine and highly decorative period pastel composition.
Condition Report: The pastel has been laid on panel in the peripheral areas and is believed to date from the time of its original composition. A cleaning and some fine repairs, invisible to the naked eye, have been made to the outer right margin. The work is in good condition overall and has a beautiful tone. Its original oval gilt frame, presumably restored, is in good condition.
