In the mid-19th century, the Sun Inn, named Poet's Corner, was Manchester's main literary meeting place, a historic timber-framed building. In the late 19th century, the Sun Inn was converted into a bookshop and pastry shop before being finally demolished. H. Petschler & Co. was a Manchester-based photography studio active around the 1860s that contributed to the photographic documentation of Manchester and its surrounding areas. Their work includes landscape and architectural photography, as well as portraits.
