Overmantel Mirror, 18th Century
Beautiful trumeau mirror decorated with a gallant pastoral scene in the spirit of François Boucher. It depicts a young woman, holding a sheep beside her, listening to the serenade that her suitor plays for her using an instrument similar to a bagpipe. The dog sitting at the latter's feet and the birdcage hanging in the tree are symbols of fidelity.
Central rod missing and upper rod partly detached.
Pitting in the mirror.
A few holes from wood-eating insects in the wood.
Crack in the wood visible on the back.
As is.
