This very old and beautiful aged cast iron fireback dates back to the Gothic period! This period spanned from the mid-12th to the 16th century. It originated in France and then spread across Europe, during the high and late middle ages. This fireback is depicting a Coat of Arms, highlighted by thick twisted ropes. Also 3 faces to see. Note the orb at the bottom, as well as the little ropes, topped by fleur de lis and the two dolphins ( a kind of crested and barbed fish). All beautiful aged by time and use. Origin: France.
