"Virgin And Child In Carved Wood – Flanders Or Upper Rhine – Around 1500–1550"
Rare polychrome wooden religious statue representing the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus, made of solid wood (probably linden or poplar), typical of Flemish or Rhineland productions of the late Middle Ages. The figure of the Virgin is treated with great gentleness: oval face, downcast gaze, long, wavy hair. She is dressed in a dress with ample pleats belted at the waist, covered by a green mantle with a gold edge falling over the shoulders. The Child Jesus, partially mutilated (missing arms), adopts a dynamic posture on Mary's left arm.
