"Ancient Burmese "turning Gong" Meditation Kyeezee"
Antique rotating gong or Kyeezee, also called "Burmese Bell" in bronze, heavy and imposing, its contours recall those of a stupa, or even a Buddha. A hole in its upper part allows it to be hung and played. Struck, it produces a deep sound, which undulates when the gong is rotated on its string. Kyeezee are traditionally used in Buddhist temples and serve to mark the beginning and end of ceremonies as well as to call the faithful to prayer and meditation. Burma (Myanmar), 19th century. Beautiful patina mixed verdigris, smoke and bronze medal. Marks of ritual wear and rubbing.
