"Antique Delft Blue And White Rectangular Tea Caddy, Netherlands, C.1760–1780"
An authentic Dutch Delft faience tea caddy of
rectangular form with chamfered
(beveled) shoulders, hand-painted in cobalt blue with chinoiserie scenes of
figures, birds, and flowering branches to each side. The original domed lid is
present and similarly decorated. All details are well-preserved, with strong
color and a delicate craquelure typical of 18th-century Delftware.
The underside bears an overglaze blue painter’s monogram "A",
a type closely associated with the De Porceleyne Byl factory. Structure, glaze,
and overall appearance are consistent with genuine Delft faience of the late
18th century. A highly collectible and rare tea caddy, representing the finest
tradition of Dutch chinoiserie ceramics.
Condition: Very good for the age. Minor glaze chips to
the rim, some small chips and wear to the base corners, fine glaze craquelure
throughout. The original cover has a faint internal hairline and a few tiny
chips, barely visible when displayed.
Dimensions: Height 14 cm, width 7.3 cm, depth 5.8 cm.
