Object description :

"Pendulum - Lerolle In Paris "
A truly exceptional example of Parisian Empire-period clockmaking, this monumental mantel clock, created circa 1810, embodies the grandeur and artistic sophistication of its era. This remarkable timepiece combines the richest materials—fire-gilt bronze, vibrant malachite, and deep lapis lazuli—in a harmonious and imposing composition. The clock's imposing architectural case is masterfully constructed of gilt bronze, featuring classical friezes of intricate acanthus scrolls and supported by four elegantly fluted columns. Its most striking feature is the dramatic contrast provided by the perfectly cut and polished malachite panels, creating a luxurious mosaic effect.
Accents of vibrant lapis lazuli further enhance its imperial aesthetic, particularly beneath the dominant allegorical figure. Crowning the pediment is a superb bronze allegorical sculpture, meticulously detailed with a double patina and gilt finish. This majestic figure, often interpreted as Minerva, goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare, stands triumphant, her foot resting on a lion's head – a powerful symbol of intellect triumphing over brute force or ignorance.
The clock rests on four finely cast lion's paw feet, anchoring its significant presence. The immaculate white enamel dial, clearly signed "à Paris", features elegant Roman numerals and finely crafted hands, all protected by a hinged glazed bezel. Flanking the dial are exquisite gilt bronze winged figures, possibly embodying Victory or Fame, adding to the clock's regal narrative.

Condition Report: This splendid clock is presented in an excellent state of preservation and is in full working order. We are pleased to confirm that the timepiece has recently undergone a thorough cleaning and service by a professional watchmaker, ensuring its exceptional performance and longevity.

Movement Details: The robust eight-day power reserve movement features a traditional wire-suspended balance. It accurately strikes the hour and half-hour on its original bell with a clear sound. The clock is offered complete with its period balance, winding key, and striking bell. This magnificent Empire period mantel clock is much more than just a timepiece; it is a significant work of art and a testament to the unparalleled craftsmanship of early 19th-century Paris, destined to be the focal point of any discerning collection.
