JAPAN - Meiji period (1868-1912). HIKESHI BANTEN - Japanese firefighter's kimono jacket, made from a thick quilted and quilted cotton fabric (sashiko) designed to be water-repellent to protect the wearer from the burning flames. The lining is entirely decorated with a pattern made using the tsutsugaki technique, a freehand resist dyeing process on an indigo background. Dimensions: 122 x 118 cm.
