Japanese 6-panel Screen - Kano School 18th Century
In ink and polychrome pigments on gold leaf, it depicts a pair of pheasants under a pine tree and gray wagtails perched on rocks near a stream.
The first three panels from the right feature the "three friends of winter"—pine, plum, and bamboo, symbolically important in Japan—as well as a bouquet of peonies.
A red lacquer seal is on the bottom of the first right panel.
Origin: Japan. Edo period: (1603-1868) 19th century.
