Manuel Pailós Blanco, a Uruguayan painter, sculptor, and ceramist born in 1918 and deceased in 2004, was born in Spain and arrived in Uruguay at the age of two. After studying at the Cercle des Beaux-Arts under professors Guillermo Laborde and José Cineo, he later became a student of Torres Garcia from 1943 to 1949, in the studio where he remained until its closure in 1967.
Pailós's painting followed the Constructivist approach, giving it a notable chromatic refinement and a particular sensitivity, both in conception and in the treatment of symbols, which identified his work and led to its commercial success. The National Museum of Plastic Arts in Montevideo houses many of his works, as does the New Cultural Center in Buenos Aires.
