"Oil On Canvas, Still Life With Roses Signed Herman Courtens - 19th Century"
Oil on canvas, still life with roses, signed Courtens Herman (Belgian) - 19th century. Talented painter born in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (1884-1956), son of Franz Courtens and student of Isidore Verheyden, trained at the Academy of Brussels. He has a predilection for landscapes, but especially for floral compositions, genre scenes. Realism all in paste with an innate impressionist touch. He notably illustrated a collection of poems by Larcel Wyseur. He was a professor at the Higher Institute of Antwerp; works can be found in the Antwerp Museum, the Groeningemuseum in Bruges.
