Portrait Of A Young Woman In A Yellow Shawl Circa 1830
A very elegant bust portrait of a young woman wearing a white dress with short sleeves adorned with ribbons and fabric flowers. Draped in a saffron yellow shawl, she sits three-quarter length in front of a twilight landscape, while her thoughtful gaze turns towards the viewer.
The modeling of the face is very soft, the complexion diaphanous, and the rendering of the textiles particularly careful.
The painter paid meticulous attention to the material effects: transparency of the linen, folds of the bodice, velvety of the shawl. The precise and gentle treatment of the face recalls the art of portraiture under the July Monarchy, in a style halfway between neoclassicism and romanticism. The hairstyle, the contained attitude, the cloudy background and the palette clearly place the work between 1835 and 1845.
This type of representation is linked to the aesthetic of intimate portraits produced in France at this time, in the spirit of certain academic workshops.
Very good condition, wooden frame and gilded stucco.
Dimensions with frame: 81x78 cm
