Description

A George III sterling silver teapot, London, 1815.
George III cylindrical teapot with a circular cross-section and half-reeded decorations. The teapot rests on an expanded circular foot adorned with a lobed band. The lid is encircled by a raised border featuring an egg-and-dart frieze and is topped with a turned horn handle. The handle is attached to the main body with an intricately detailed upper section modeled as a coiled serpent. The base of the handle includes an unusual molding in the form of a serpent’s head, flanked by a fan of feathers. The spout is embellished with a radiating anthemion motif and, at its lower part, with flaming acanthus leaves.
