Second Empire Thermometer In Its Oval Frame With Painted Porcelain Plate
From the Napoleon III period, here is a thermometer displaying both the Celsius and Réaumur scales. Although the latter, invented in 1731, has been officially obsolete since 1794 in favor of Celsius, it has long been customary to display one or the other or, as is currently the case, both. The porcelain plate is really very pleasant with its flower seedlings and the various indications concerning the ideal temperature for sick rooms, that of human warmth or that, limited for orange trees... Its frame is in black stained wood with a gilded brass ring, at the bottom, there is a hair or a crack, see photo.
