19th Century Plaster Mask Of A Deity

Beautiful plaster mask representing the face of a divinity wearing a diadem, inspired by a divine or allegorical figure from Greco-Roman Antiquity.
The face presents the idealized features characteristic of ancient sculpture: almond-shaped eyes, fleshy mouth, wavy hair framing the face with fluidity. The floral headdress, decorated with foliage and a central flower, evokes the attributes of goddesses such as Demeter or Persephone, often associated with fertility and the cycle of the seasons. The stylized drapery around the neck reinforces the nobility of the face.

This type of plaster cast was frequently produced in fine arts workshops in the 19th century, for educational or decorative purposes. It could also adorn the walls of an amateur's study, an artist's studio or a scholarly library. The hollowed-out back testifies to traditional manufacture by hollow casting.

Very good general condition, with some slight wear and a small loss in the drapery. Natural patina, not repainted.
