Algerian Short Moukhala Rifle - Algeria, 19th Century
Algerian short moukhala rifle - Algeria, 19th century Functional flintlock (locally made and not imported from Europe). Wooden stock decorated with bone inlays, red coral cabochons and steel and brass wire. Octagonal barrel of European manufacture, silver damascened on the upper side. The short length of the barrel, the reduced overall dimensions and the two large rings for the passage of a sagle make me think that this rifle was designed particularly for mounted use (horse or camelid). Missing the ramrod. Length 101.5cmBarrel length 67.5cmMuzzle diameter 14mmWeight approximately 2030gr
