Attributable to the painter Cornelis de Baellieur the Elder (Antwerp, 1607-1671) who made his debut in his homeland, where he had “Lisart” as an excellent tutor, becoming himself an established master - he was a free master of the prestigious Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke -, author mainly of works of religious subjects, much sought after by the clergy, nobles and rich Antwerp merchants.
The painting is framed in a precious ebonized wooden frame with elegant golden decorations with floral and curl motifs, perfectly preserved. The frame itself is a refined example of decorative art, able to further enhance the sacred subject of the work.
