"Indian Miniature, Court Scene"
The tradition of Indian miniaturists, still alive in the interwar period, is today threatened with extinction, due to the lack of new generations of artists. This one was probably made in the first half of the 20th century, representing a classical scene of a prince courting a young woman ( very close ....) in an enchanting garden, and accompanied by his servants carrying refreshments. The space is saturated with details, the rich carpet, the ornate balustrade, a frame of foliage enhanced with gold. Probably made on a galalite plate, a material widely used at the beginning of the century to imitate the polish of ivory, it is in perfect condition. It is presented in a frame from the 1960s.
