He is associated with the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist schools. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a pupil of Léon Cogniet and Alexandre Cabanel, two renowned academic painters. This gave him a classical grounding before he adopted a freer, nature-oriented style. Gagliardini began with history paintings and genre scenes before devoting himself primarily to landscapes. He painted scenes of the Barbizon region, the Alps, the South of France, and the Jura Mountains. Visible at the Courcelles Antiquités Gallery, at 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
