Birmingham 1891, 925\% Solid Silver, Pair Of Wine Ewers, Claret Jugs
Artist: John Thomas Heath Et John Hartshorne Middleton Pour Hukin And Heath , Birmingham
Very elegant pair of ewers or claret jugs as the English call them in solid silver of the first title and cut crystal. They are in perfect condition and ready to serve water or wine at your table. The mounts are very legibly hallmarked with the guarantee hallmarks for solid silver 925%, the hallmark of the city of Birmingham, the letter dates from 1891 and the master goldsmith hallmark. The lid of each is nicely engraved with two intertwined capital letters. The English call them "claret jugs", which could cause a misunderstanding. Because they were not used to serve the famous clairet (light red wine) but rather to serve classic Bordeaux red wines. In fact, from around 1700 the word "claret" was used across the Channel for classic Bordeaux red wines (Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon - Cabernet Franc).
