"The Village Ball - Oil On Cardboard - Signed - Circa 1950"
A good-sized painting depicting a village festival scene. It is a ball: on the left, several couples are dancing. But as in all rural festivals, most of the participants are sitting... Several groups of men, recognizable by their berets, are standing on the periphery of the dance floor. Under the large trees, a refreshment stand is set up, all the tables are occupied. Several women are wearing hats.
The color harmony is remarkable: blues are the dominant shade, echoed by whites, creams, and ochres. Blacks mark all the male figures. A few red dots energize the whole.
The paste is thick and supple.
The painting is signed S Bouchard at the bottom left. It is clean and in very good condition. It is surrounded by a large matte black wooden rod.
The work can be viewed at the gallery.
