"Alpine Landscape Painting Attributed To Alfred Foretay 1861-1944"
At the age of 16, upon enrolling at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Foretay chose sculpture. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1888 to 1906, achieving great success. Around 1910, painting took on a greater role in his work. Landscapes of the Lausanne region, then Haute-Savoie were his first subjects, but Brittany and Auvergne also welcomed his easel. Nicknamed the painter of light, he set off to discover the light of the south of France, Italy and Morocco. A painter of color, his very personal work is close to the Divisionist movement. The paintings, less well known than his sculptures, had fallen into oblivion. It was in 1977, following the discovery of a batch of canvases in a Geneva cellar, that his hometown organized an exhibition. In Auvergne, three paintings are at the Museum of Painters of the School of Murols. Unsigned oil on cardboard
