A Huge Pair Of Fabulous Mirrors From Dunvegan Castle, Isle Of Skye

These mirrors are 2 meters and 37 centimeters high; they are huge and fabulous!
Not quite a pair, but very impressive and attributed to Gillow's of Lancaster by Sotheby's.

Made in the 1840s, they have an oval-bordered, darted frame with carved moldings. These George IV giltwood mirrors have been carefully restored and are very elegant.
They both retain their original nameplates.

Provenance: Collection of Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye, Scotland.
The castle dates from the 1200s, and building work goes back several centuries to the 1850s, when these mirrors were made. The grounds can be visited today, and it is even possible to book a stay in one of the cottages.
It is considered one of the greatest castles in the Hebrides and the only Highland fortress to have been owned and occupied by the same family for over 800 years.
