Artist: Emile Giraud (1850-1918)
Emile Giraud (1850-1918) Landscape in Aix-en-Provence, oil on canvas, 38 x 55, signed on the back on the frame "Emile Giraud" and annotated "Montagne Sainte Victoire".
Aix-based landscape artist, both painter and pharmacist, contemporary of Cézanne, one of the founders of the Friends of the Arts of Aix-en-Provence. He married the daughter of the painter Joseph Villevieille. He produced landscapes imbued with a soft and poetic light "à la Corot", inspired by the Aix countryside. Incidentally, his works seduced the famous art dealer Georges Wildenstein who, it is said, while he was a refugee in Aix-en-Provence in 1942, filled his hotel room with the painter's works.
