Clotelle Mirecourt Violin Circa 1930
Clotelle Violin Mirecourt
Clotelle violin made in Mirecourt in the 1930s .
Typical Mirecourt violin construction using Vosges woods: spruce for the top and maple for the back, sides, and neck.
The instrument is in very good condition, with no fractures or old repairs.
Note that the center joint of the back has moved slightly, but is not detached.
The scroll is elegantly chamfered in black. The two-piece maple back measures 361 mm.
The ebony pegs are new, as are the bridge, the Wittner tailpiece with 4 fine tuners, and the ebony chin rest.
The upper nut and fingerboard are original ebony.
A planimetry has been performed.
This violin is in very good playing condition, mounted with Corelli crystal strings.
Here is a violin that is a testament to traditional French violin making and will be suitable for a demanding student, much lighter and with a very good sound compared to new instruments from China.
