Pair Of Portraits: Mendicant Monks On Wood, 18th Century

Beautiful pair of portraits of bearded monks, holding their strong staffs of preaching and mendicant monks, nomadic monks of the cities of Europe.
Painted on fruitwood panel, 25cm x 18.5cm, quite thin, formerly glued to a support with black wax.
Painting is of very good quality, faces and lights are successful.
The old varnish is not perfect, deserves to be lightened.
Small lifting on a skull, without gravity. Old wormholes on back, which are no longer active.
French or Italian School, probably late 18th or shortly after.
