Baining woman's mask collected in the village of Keravat in Papua New Guinea. Three-dimensional mask that danced during an initiation ceremony of the Bainnig ethnic group in northern New Britain. This traditional dance takes place around a huge fire full of embers. Wood, paper mulberry bark or tapa, stretched over a wicker frame, leaves, natural pigments, pencils and markers.
