The scene depicts a vast verdant plain crisscrossed by tall, bare trees, probably poplars, towering against a wide, bustling sky, dense with clouds and soft light. In the distance, minute figures and a wooded area bordering the horizon can be glimpsed, while in the center of the field of view is a clearing furrowed by grassy paths.
The work is signed and dated 1897 in the lower right corner. On the front near the signature is a period label suggesting the painting's participation in an art review or exhibition.
The painting, mounted in a richly worked gilt frame, is an excellent example of nineteenth-century Italian female landscape production.
