Description of the work
The work depicts a group of people in a rural camp, probably a nomadic community, next to two wooden wagons, typical of caravans. The scene takes place in a clearing at the edge of a forest, under a large tree with autumn foliage. Some of the characters, mainly women and children, are engaged in everyday activities: they are talking and moving around the wagons and horses. In the foreground, two horses—one white and one dark—are slowly advancing towards the observer, while two others are grazing nearby.
The composition is balanced, with a skilful distribution of natural light filtering through the branches and reflecting on the grass, the bright clothes of the figures and the water of a small stream in the foreground. The color is treated with warmth and softness, evoking a romantic and pastoral sensibility. The atmosphere is peaceful but lively, conveying a sense of community and freedom.
