Clock And Its Fittings: Large Bronze By Perrette Signed Grégoire, Napoleon III

Important clock and its set of two large covered vases from the Napoleon III period.
This is an imposing mantelpiece set.
The main clock consists of a large Louis XVI Style base in red griotte marble from Italy decorated with gilded bronzes.
The architectural composition is superb and of high quality.
The bronzes have retained their original mercury gilding.
Note the many details and the quality of the bronzes with these Louis XVI bronze barrel feet, the rows of pearls, the Louis XVI knot above the movement.
The clock works and has been serviced by our watchmaker.
It is a beautiful Napoleon III movement striking the hours and half-hours. in perfect condition with its bell, its pendulum etc...
the enameled dial is very reminiscent of Coteau's work with extremely fine work of garlands of flowers and simulated gemstones.
a work of great finesse.
the finely chiseled hands are original and the whole is protected by glass.
the Pendulum is surmounted by an important bronze representing a ravishing young woman probably Perette from the Fables of Jean de la Fontaine. this imposing Bronze has a double patina of gold
and silver of origin.
The face is charming and very finely chiseled. Perette wears a flowered scarf on her shoulders and flowers in her hair.
the contrast between the two patinas gives a lot of life to this bronze of a young girl which is reminiscent of the portraits of Greuze.
on the pedestal of the bronze we can see a cartouche in gilded bronze representing the famous milk jug of Perette.
on the back of the bronze we find the signature of Jean-Louis Grégoire (1840-1890) in hollow accompanied by the founder's mark in hollow.
the clock is accompanied by two important covered bronze vases very finely worked and chiseled with decoration of dragons and lambrequins.
they rest on red griotte marble bases decorated with gilded bronzes and gilded bronze barrel feet. note that a gilded bronze element is missing on one of the two bases.

a magnificent fireplace set, spectacular and romantic in its subject.
