"Pair Of Painted Wood And Cast Iron Sheaths – Composition Work, Early 20th Century. "
Pair of decorative sheaths in the neoclassical style, composed of painted beech shafts and cast iron capitals. The latter, probably derived from old architectural elements from the early 20th century, give the whole a beautiful architectural presence. The capital belongs to a composite neoclassical order, probably inspired by the Corinthian, but adapted to a decorative vocabulary of the early 20th century, used for architectural or furnishing elements (sheath, column, console). It is not a faithful archaeological replica, but rather a historicist interpretation typical of cast iron or staff productions from the 1900s–1920s, often present in public architecture or interior decorations in the revisited Louis XVI style. Each sheath rests on a plinth base, topped with a tray following the shape of the capitals allowing the presentation of sculptures, vases or art objects. The sheaths can be dismantled into three parts (base, shaft, capital) for easy transport. Very heavy and stable, they are suitable for decorative and museum use.
