French Charles X Period Turquoise Opaline Vase With Gilt Bronze Mounts

A turquoise-blue opaline baluster vase with a flared neck, featuring a chiselled gilded bronze mount comprising a central band surmounted by two side handles in the shape of facing swan necks, and a collar emphasising the pedestal.

The Charles X period favoured slender forms combined with the intense hues of opaline — particularly sky blue —, enhanced by chiselled bronze mounts featuring iconic neoclassical and naturalistic motifs such as the swan.

This vase, which is typical of the work produced by the famous Parisian manufacturers of the first half of the 19th century, exemplifies the refinement of decorative objects from the Restoration period, where the lustre of the gilded bronze elegantly highlights the intensity of the opaline glass’s colour.
