Biography: Antoine Daens was born in Brussels in 1871. He was a Belgian Impressionist painter known for his sensitive and light-filled depictions of landscapes, garden views, genre scenes, figures, nudes, interiors, portraits, and still lifes. Working primarily in oils and pastels, he developed a delicate and lyrical style that reflected the core principles of Impressionism, often capturing fleeting moments with nuance and subtle emotion.

Daens received his formal artistic education at the Brussels Academy of Fine Art, where he developed a solid foundation in drawing and painting. Over the course of his career, he became an accomplished illustrator in addition to his work as a painter, further showcasing his versatility.

He regularly exhibited his work throughout Belgium and gained particular recognition with his participation at the Brussels gallery “La Palette” in 1918. His reputation as both an artist and educator grew, and he was eventually appointed professor at the Watermael-Boitsfort Academy of Fine Art, where he mentored many students over the years and contributed to the artistic development of a younger generation.

Antoine Daens spent most of his life in Brussels and died in Ixelles in 1946. His paintings remain appreciated for their quiet elegance and atmospheric quality. Today, his works are held in private and public collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels and the Ixelles Museum of Fine Art.
