Elegant cut crystal claret jug mounted in sterling silver, partially gilt.
The crystal body is adorned with sharply cut vertical fluting descending to a star-cut base. The handle, made of crystal and applied hot to the shoulder, follows a restrained curved line.
The neck is encircled by a plain silver mount with a subtly contoured pouring spout. The hinged lid is of doucine profile and topped with a finely cast and chiselled finial in the form of a posy of flowers and foliage. The interior of the mount is entirely gilt.
Both the lid and the mount bear the French Minerva hallmark (1st standard, 950/1000 silver), along with the maker’s mark, which has not been identified.
