Studd (1863-1919)
is a British artist of considerable importance for the place he took within the artistic colony of Pont-Aven, where he met Gauguin at Le Pouldu in 1890. His links with Gauguin, with whom he traveled to Papeete in 1897-1898 as well as his proximity to James Abbott Mac Neil Whistler 1834-1903 (Both were neighbors in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea)
After working with Whistler, Studd would definitely come under his influence. He was also close to Walter Sickert (1860-1942)
A work by Arthur Studd comparable to ours is kept in the collections of the Tate Museum in London: Venetian Lyric (Santa Maria della Salute)(?) c.1900–10,
