Alfred Frank de Prades, born Anacharsis François Prestreau in Lunel (Hérault) on March 24, 1825 and died in London on July 7, 1885, was a French painter and engraver, active in Great Britain. Well known in the United Kingdom during his lifetime for his equestrian paintings and military subjects in a style close to that of George Stubbs (1724-1806), his canvases, appreciated by the English sporting nobility of the 19th century, made him successful from around 1850 until his death in 1885. Equestrian and military subjects made Alfred Frank de Prades successful in England, where he had settled from a very young age. He obtained numerous commissions from the English nobility and his portrait of the thoroughbred "Fairplay" which won the Household Brigade Cup was bought by its owner, King Edward VII himself. As such, it is now in the Royal Collection Trust, London.
