It is hand-painted and decorated with thistles.
This flower is a symbol of the Virgin Mary and became, in the 16th century, the emblem of the Lorraine region, and more specifically, of the city of Nancy.
The motto associated with the thistle is "Qui s'y frotte, s'y pique" ("Touch me and you’ll get pricked").
This prestigious glassmaking house still exists today.
