Maiolica ewer hand-painted with winged cherub and vegetal motifs. Faenza? Late 17th century
Height: 21 cm
Maiolica ewer, hand-painted in cobalt blue and ochre on an ivory-white glazed background. The globular body, with a prominent spout and vertical handle, is decorated in a compendiario style with a central winged cherub surrounded by stylized vegetal motifs, executed with swift and fluid brushwork.
The simplicity of the design, the limited color palette, and the expressive line point to a production from Faenza in the late 17th century, likely intended for everyday or pharmaceutical use.
Several old losses and breaks, especially along the upper rim.
