"Umbrian 16th C. Wooden Cristh Sculpture With Original Polychromy"
Interesting wooden sculpture depicting "Cristo Patiens" with original polychromy and loincloth not carved but made by applying a mixture of plaster and rags and then gilded with gold leaf which is very well preserved. The sculpture was recently cleaned by a professional restoration studio which allowed the ancient polychromy to be brought back to an excellent state of conservation which shows vivid and saturated colors.
The sculptural work can be traced back to a master craftsman active during the first quarter of the sixteenth century in the central Apennines between Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo.
The measurements of Christ are approximately 80cm x 60cm wide.
