Terracotta Bust - Gaetano Merchi
Large terracotta bust on a pedestal of the portrait of a very famous opera dancer from the second half of the 18th century: Marie-Madeleine Guimard (1743-1816), known as "la Guimard". Gaetano Merchi (1747-1823) sculpted a precious collection of busts representing the portraits of famous actresses and dancers of his time.
Taking care of the frontal presentation, the head slightly turned, ignoring the gaze of the spectator while accentuating the presence of the model, Gaetano Merchi created a portrait of great virtuosity and great finesse of modeling.
Work probably from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th. Unsigned work. Very good general condition, no accidents or visible restorations.
