Masuki Komatsu (19th-20th Centuries) - The Boboli Sculpture Garden, Florence

Oil on cardboard panel. Masuki Komatsu (1904-2002) was born in Kochi and studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. After graduating, he returned to his hometown of Kochi, but later considered returning to Tokyo. During his trip, he stopped in Kobe and was deeply captivated by the exotic atmosphere of the Western-style architecture and the lush landscapes he discovered there. Komatsu decided to settle in Kobe and continue his artistic work. While working on the street, he was occasionally approached by passersby, to whom he responded kindly.
