Graphite pencil drawing on paper
Dimensions: H 13 x W 22 cm
Dated December 19, 1886
Probably French or Italian school, 19th century
Charming pencil drawing depicting a scene of port life by the sea. In the center, a large ship with folded sails dominates the composition, surrounded by figures going about their business: unloading, repairing, discussions. In the background, other boats and groups of figures subtly enliven the scene. The artist subtly captures the low light and the peaceful atmosphere of the coast. A sensitive work, with beautiful graphic mastery, demonstrating an attentive eye for scenes of daily maritime life in the 19th century. Slightly yellowed paper, a small trace of humidity visible at the top right, without major alteration of the drawing.
Illegible signature, dated at the bottom right "19-12-86".
