"Call To Disciples…. Monastic Work 20th Century"
Somewhere, I imagine the monastery protected by its thick walls, hidden by its location far from human turbulence... I can clearly see the nun, isolated in her thoughts and prayers, who, muteness obliges, once past the fence, bathes in silence... I can clearly see the meticulousness of the masterpiece which is born, day after day, from the tips of her fingers. The delicacy of the gesture, the almost divine precision in the elaboration of the interlacing of gold make this object of piety an extraordinary witness to the know-how of the nuns. The central scene, of Byzantine inspiration, seems to me to be a painting on silk. On the banks of the Sea of Galilee Jesus behind a phylactery says to Simon, Andrew, James and John: "Come after me and I will make you fishers of men" At the corners of the medallions, printed, curved with pearls, represent in miniature St Daniel, St Alex, St Martha and a scene representing Mary and the child Jesus holding the orb (salvator mundi) in their hands. I am not talking to you about the decorations embroidered with gold thread and enhanced with pearls and ruby glass which give their letters of nobility to the composition.
