"Gold And Enamel Snuffbox, Dedicated By The Grand Duchess Of Russia Anna Pavlovna"
Gold and enamel snuffbox in the shape of a cartouche. The hinged lid is decorated with a Neapolitan peasant couple and child on a gold background in reserve finely engraved with a view of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius in the distance. This composition and the description of the costumes are influenced by the work of Bartolomeo Pinelli (1781-1835) whose engravings were published in the first half of the 19th century. The body is decorated with rectangular guilloché panels framed in black enamel. The background is decorated with guilloché and fine floral engravings; in its center a grimacing mask is edged with black enamel. The interior borders are engraved with a dedication: "Souvenir of Her Imperial Highness the Grand Duchess Anna of Russia to Mrs. L. Franconi, Geneva, August 20, 1843". Probably Swiss work. Preserved in its original case, covered in green leather, with a red silk velvet interior.
