Pewter pitcher with a shoulder shape, quarter-round foot and cup and acorn thumb.
Control hallmark: crowned C / BEAV(CAIRE) / 1763.
Height: 18.5 cm.
BEAUCAIRE, Last third of the 18th century.

Very rare provenance, fourth example encountered in nearly 50 years of "frequentation" and research on pewter...
Bibliography: "Pewter potters of the Old Languedoc and Roussillon" by René Richard, a great collector and scholar who brought together in this work all his knowledge of the production of his region.
In Beaucaire, like many centers of the kingdom, the control was not updated every year as provided for by the royal edict of 1691. We only know of 4 control hallmarks from this locality: the one before 1738 non-vintage, those of 1738, 1758, 1760 and 1763.
Remember that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime.
