"Ewer Or Large Ablution Jug, Bukhara Region, Uzbekistan, 19th Century"
Round and domed ewer or jug from the Bukhara region, Uzbekistan, 19th century.
It supports an engraved Dominic-shaped lid topped with a fretel.
A beautiful S-shaped bronze handle finished with a bronze collar under the lid.
The entire body of the jug in formerly tinned red copper is decorated with epigraphic decorations engraved on seventeen gadroons.
Leaf and flower motifs engraved on friezes cover the piece.
Jug with a long spout with three sides decorated with friezes, very high flared neck with a knot in the middle, gadrooned body bearing a beautiful resemblance to Venetian and Provençal ewers or jugs, the whole set on a large decorated pedestal, extremely decorative and heavy model.
Beautiful patina.
Dimensions: height: 41 cm - width: 28 cm - diameter of the body: 16 cm - Weight 1254 g.
The ewers or jugs were and still are today, mainly used for ablutions, washing the face and hands with perfumed water, before meals and snacks and at the time of religious ceremonies.
