Monogram lower right "De"Dietz Edzard (1893-1963) is a German painter who studied fine arts in Berlin from 1911 alongside Max Beckmann. In 1929, he exhibited in Paris at the Jeu de Paume Museum, and after a brief return to Berlin he came to settle permanently in Paris. The Durand-Ruel gallery exhibited his works on several occasions. During the Second World War, he was interned in the French internment and deportation camp Les Milles.
