Axel Hennix (1905-1988), a Swedish artist born in Östersund, revealed his talent at the age of 5 and sold his first work at 12. Trained at the Konsthögskolan in Stockholm (1928-1930) then with André Lhote in Paris (1931), he distinguished himself as a columnist and illustrator for Aftonbladet and Folket i Bild in the 1930s and 1940s, often with anti-Nazi satires. Settling in Värmland in 1945 with Maria, he drew his inspiration from his family and Mediterranean landscapes. In the 1960s, he collaborated with Arvika Nyheter and Nya Wermlands-Tidningen. A master of painting, watercolor, collage, and sculpture, he remained largely unknown during his lifetime, until a retrospective exhibition in Arvika in 2016.
