Louis XVI Period Carved And Gilded Wooden Wall Pedestal
Wall console in carved and gilded wood, featuring a neoclassical decoration characteristic of the reign of Louis XVI.
The half-column shaft is decorated with rudentate fluting and finely carved acanthus leaves. The molded belt, decorated with pearls and gadroons, supports a circular tray with red polychrome highlights. The lower part is embellished with ram heads carved in high relief, an emblematic motif of the neoclassical period, symbolizing strength and abundance.
Original gilding, applied with a gold leaf, displaying a beautiful antique patina and wear consistent with the age of the piece.
Original wrought iron fastenings on the back. French work from the Louis XVI period, circa 1770–1780.
